Neukölln bleibt dreckig
Graffiti is a way of rewriting the city, of communicating with others in a subversive and often anonymous way. They add a presence of protest to the streets which is, in my opinion, so relevant to express what people think and feel in a neighbourhood. What does it mean if we want our streets to remain dirty? Clean streets seem to equal urban renewal and development, which is ambivalent if it means higher rents and being kicked out. No idea if the stencil shown above refers to this theatre piece performed on Karl-Marx-Platz in 2014, or if it is just a protest slogan that already existed. Either way, it made me smile on my way home 🙂
