Tempelhofer sheep
It was a cold, no, bitter-cold day when I hopped on my bike to take my kids to the ‘Feld’ to look for the sheep. A shepard brought his 150 sheep to the old airport (which was turned into a public park in 2010) over a period of a week to ‘mow’ the 300 hectares of lawn – if sheep do this rather than machines, it is better for the biodiversity and soil on the Feld. Another important issue this yearly event is trying to raise is the precarious state of shepards, which is threatening the survival of their profession – even though it is really important to pasture wide areas of green areas in Germany, mostly natural preserves.
