Lollipop, coffee, children’s chair (unknown artist)
On my way to the project space, I am traversing all the three of Neukölln’s main arteries: Sonnenallee, Karl-Marx-Straße, and Hermannstraße. Boddinstraße is a small street connecting the former and the latter, which I only take when I am walking (the only ‘mountain’ of Neukölln; plus, the street is covered with cobble stones). Boddinstraße is known for its cultural diversity, with Asian restaurants, Afro shops and a row of Bulgarian cafés. Lately, there are more hipsteresque businesses making an appearance – a 90’s vintage shop, and some special coffee roasteries. I just hope this won’t take over… There is a school and a large playground on my way up, so the street is usually busy with people of all ages. I sometimes go to the playground with my children, the older one just loves the long slide.
